About Us and Our Events
Menla is a project of Tibet House US, the Dalai Lama's non-profit cultural center in America. Leading Tibetan Buddhist scholar, activist, and translator, Robert Thurman is our President and a frequent retreat presenter at Menla. Our annual retreats include retreats on the topics of Buddhism, Tibet, yoga, meditation, psychology, and Native American traditions, and feature visiting faculty such as Sharon Salzberg, Krishna Das, Mark Epstein, Richard Freeman, Dale Borglum, Isa Gucciardi, Marianne Williamson, the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers, and others.
Menla is open year-round, though our peak retreat season is May through November. Our hours are 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. whenever we have retreats scheduled, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday when no retreats are scheduled. Specializing in rare Tibetan therapies, our full-service spa is open Wednesday through Monday each week and is available both to people on retreat at Menla and to locals and weekenders staying off-site.
All Are Welcome
Apart from joining group retreats, individuals, couples, and small groups of friends are welcome to book a room and enjoy healthy meals in our dining rooms, taking advantage of our full menu of spa services, various hiking trails, and access to a variety of local activities throughout the Catskills, including live music, fairs and festivals, art galleries, antiquing, horse-back riding, tubing on the Esopus stream, skiing in the wintertime, and endless off-site hiking.
Enjoy delicious local, seasonal, and sustainable meals, be inspired by abundant wildlife in every direction, and be fully supported during your stay by Menla's caring staff. Whether you join one of our annual group retreats, come by yourself or with a loved one for a personal getaway, or book Menla for your own group retreat, a visit to Menla is sure to be a truly unforgettable experience.
