Living Zen —
Since 1980, Zen Mountain Monastery has offered traditional and innovative ways to explore Buddhist teachings and practice. Attending a retreat at the Monastery or entering a period of residency means stepping into a dynamic spiritual community and way of living that’s uniquely conducive to bringing spiritual practice to life within everyday activities.
Whether you come for a Sunday morning program, a weekend retreat, a meditation intensive, or a period of residency, you’ll have a chance to experience the Monastery’s cloister and community for yourself. In contrast to a culture infused with distraction, the Monastery is a refuge—what John Daido Loori, Roshi, the founding abbot, called “an archive of sanity”—a place to encounter your own inner silence and stillness, wisdom and compassion.
