Profile
At the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, Buddhist study, practice, and community come together to deepen engagement with the Dharma and cultivate wisdom and compassion.
Buddhist Study, Practice, and Community
Located in Barre, Massachusetts, BCBS offers residential and online programs that integrate the study of Buddhist teachings with meditation, discussion, and lived experience.
Our programs explore many streams of Buddhist teaching and practice, bringing careful engagement with teachings and texts together with reflection, dialogue, and contemplative practice. Participants learn in community, exploring the Dharma with teachers and one another and considering how Buddhist wisdom can inform the way they understand and engage with their lives and our shared world.
Whether through a residential retreat, an online course, or a longer path of study and practice, BCBS offers opportunities to deepen understanding, strengthen practice, and cultivate community.
Our History and Commitment
BCBS was founded in 1990 by renowned meditation teachers Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg to integrate Buddhist study and practice. Our campus in Barre, Massachusetts, is connected by wooded trails to both the Insight Meditation Society Retreat Center and Forest Refuge.
BCBS is committed to being a welcoming and inclusive community for all who are drawn to Buddhist study and practice. We seek to create an environment where people of diverse identities and backgrounds feel respected, supported, and able to participate fully.
