Profile
In its current location since 1993, the Shambhala Meditation Center of Milwaukee has been a fixture on Milwaukee’s diverse East Side since 1979. For nearly 40 years, the Center has connected to the community in diverse ways, from teaching university courses for credit, to working with inmates through prison dharma programs.
The Shambhala Meditation Center of Milwaukee continues to bring the distinctly contemporary spiritual path of the Shambhala Buddhist teachings to others. Following it, we can reclaim our natural birthright of wisdom and compassion, and work with others to bring about the best in human society.
No prior meditation experience is required to attend, and most programs offer meditation instruction upon request. All are welcome. Donations are always appreciated.
Tuesday Night Open House (Second Tuesday of each month)
Our monthly Tuesday Night Open House program includes initial group meditation instruction at 7:00PM, an informal reception with refreshments, and an introductory talk on a wide variety of subjects at 8:00PM. Meditation instruction is free. We have different types of meditation cushions for different bodies, or you can sit in a chair.
The Way of Shambhala
The Way of Shambhala curriculum is a series of weekend contemplative workshops and weeknight classes which provides an experiential overview of meditation practice, wisdom teachings, contemplative arts, and physical disciplines rooted in the ancient traditions of Shambhala and Tibetan Buddhism. This program is open to everyone and also prepares students who wish to further develop their practice and study at Enlightened Society Assembly and Warrior Assembly.
