Profile
The mission of the Zen Life & Meditation Center, Chicago (ZLMC) is to empower you to live a Zen-inspired life of openness, empathy and clarity. We teach a Zen spiritual path with a strong foundation of mindfulness meditation.
Our Curriculum and Courses
We offer a comprehensive core curriculum on learning mindfulness meditation, and applying it in every aspect of daily life. This curriculum consists of ten Foundations of Mindfulness classes taught each quarter every year.
The Zen Life Series is the second level of our Core Curriculum at Zen Life Meditation Center, Chicago. These classes will deepen and clarify the spiritual path of Zen and help you orient your life around greater meaning and purpose. This series will fully embrace the Zen Buddhist tradition along with important terms and philosophical teachings. It will focus on the teachings of the Six Paramitas. It will consist of 10 classes, taught once a week. The series will be taught twice a year (Spring and Fall) by Zen Master, Robert Joshin Althouse.
Classes at ZLMC are grounded in the Zen tradition, but they are always practical, secular and down-to-earth. They draw on Western modalities of neuroscience, psychology and philosophy.
Aside from the Core Curriculum, ZLMC also offers many retreats, workshops and classes in various disciplines such as Precepts, teachings of the Heart Sutra, the path of a Spiritual Warrior, and Five Wisdom Energies.
Finally, ZLMC offers a path for Zen training with two empowered Zen teachers, Roshi Robert Joshin Althouse and Sensei June Ryushin Tanoue. We teach a Zen spiritual path that is broadly inclusive regardless of one’s religion, culture, language or ethnicity.
